The new Paul Martin’s on Lake Avenue brings its signature seasonal food styling to Pasadena.
“Chain” might be a dirty word to some, but the opening of the 10th Paul Martin’s American Grill in Pasadena signals the arrival of superior fresh seasonal fare, not a tired, warmed over concept. The newest creation of PF Chang’s founder Paul Fleming (also of Fleming’s Steak House) and his partner Brian Bennett, Paul Martin’s is committed to providing made from scratch cuisine featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients in a refined yet relaxing atmosphere.
It’s clear why the Paul Martin’s experience has so quickly grown from its Roseville, California beginnings to include 10 locations throughout California and Arizona. We walked through the restaurant’s understated, but coolly elegant 7,200 square foot dining area, and sat at the outdoor dining space that can accommodate an additional 44 diners. It’s open and comfortable with a spacious bar and a charcuterie station.
The menu leans toward solidly comfortable food, made with impeccably fresh ingredients and an accomplished but unfussy technique. Importantly, all seafood is sustainably harvested, poultry is free range, vegetables are certified organic and the beef is “never ever.” In sustainable parlance that means never any hormones, never any antibiotics, never fed animal bi-products and raised free range on a grass and grain diet.
While Pasadena’s new Paul Martin’s might be but one of several, the unwavering commitment to quality ingredients and the excellence born of experience, make Paul Martin’s Pasadena a singular dining experience.
