Guisados’ Opens in Pasadena, Bringing Its Savory, Homestyle Braises

After much anticipation, popular Los Angeles favorite Guisados has opened its doors on the site of the former Doña Rosa restaurant (RIP) and Pasadenans finally have a chance to experience Guisados’ famous signature braises. Though Guisados may be expanding, the family-owned establishment is still keeping up with their high standards.

Guisados’ savory, homestyle braises are simmered for hours, generously piled upon freshly handmade tortillas. The meat-centric braises include flank steak, shredded pork, chorizo, and shredded chicken that are sure to satiate; the vegetarian-friendly braise offerings (calabacitas, frijoles con queso, and hongos con cilantro) are equally hearty, filling, and delicious. In fact, the late local food legend, Jonathan Gold, previously named Guisados’ calabacitas tacos as one of his favorite vegetarian tacos.

If the (medium) level of spice hits you too hard, cool off with a refreshing agua fresca, made in-house daily like the Jamaica (hibiscus iced tea), Armando Palmero (a cheeky, fun twist on the popular classic with a combination of lemonade and Jamaica), or horchata.
