How Perry’s Joint Wins the Hearts (and Stomachs) of Many Pasadenans

A quick scroll through the mouthwatering images of Perry’s Joint’s Instagram sets hopes high for the sammie-seeking crowd and an in-person visit fulfills those very hopes, and more. Opened in 2004 by Perry Bennett, the eponymous cafe continues to win the hearts (and stomachs) of many Pasadenans.

Perry’s Joint boasts the claim that their original handcrafted gourmet-style sandwiches are piled “higher and wider than any consumer’s mouth.” Consider this review your confirmation.

The ingredients seem simple enough and reminiscent of an elementary school lunch: deli meat, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and cheese; but in Bennett’s hands, the made-to-order combinations are anything but. Starting with a base (options include wheat, rye, sourdough, and squaw) of pillow-soft bread, Perry’s piles (and we mean piles!) on the high-quality, fresh fillings. The result is a multi-tiered monstrosity of satisfaction and wholesomeness.

In addition to the acclaimed sandwiches, Bennett is highly regarded for his involvement in the community. In keeping with his annual fundraising tradition (this year hit the 10-year milestone), Bennett set aside Aug. 8 as the designated day where 100% of the day’s proceeds served as a collegiate scholarship to several graduates from John Muir High School. Alongside the GoFundMe campaign Bennet organized with the same intention, the proceeds exceeded $10,000.
