With all the delicious competition in this town, it’s difficult for an eatery to make it. Yet, this Pasadena favorite has been around for nearly 100 years and continues to thrive as a bustling, family-friendly restaurant. Family owned and operated, Mijares pays tribute to founder Jesucita Mijares by using many of the same recipes dating back to 1920 when this award-winning eatery was established.

Mijares specializes in traditional style cooking like their tortilla soup, tamales, chicken mole poblano and various selections of cheesy enchiladas and generously filled burritos. Their creamy guacamole is bursting with flavor and is the perfect complement to almost any dish.

Their cantina menu offers a selection of libations to wet your whistle, but if you can’t make up your mind, ask one of their friendly bartenders for a recommendation. We suggest trying their hand shaken margarita—it’s been said to be one of the best in Pasadena. For the adventurous, Mijares also features an ample selection of specialty cocktails like their festive Candy Cane Martini, George’s Famous Bloody Mary or Spiked Arnold Palmer—just to name a few.

Insider tip: For those on a budget (or those looking to celebrate the weekend early), come celebrate “Taco Thursday” by taking advantage of Mijares’ $2 taco special that pairs well with a cold cerveza or margarita pitcher to wash it down.
