Old Town Updates

Popular Smorgasburg ice cream vendor Kinrose Creamery, has opened a scoop shop tucked away on Mills Place. Best-sellers include walnut baklava, Egyptian mint chip, saffron pistachio rose, and sour cherry with Iranian candy floss.

Prince Street Pizza continues its expansion with the opening of its sixth LA location on Colorado Boulevard. It’s also their largest location and here you can enjoy pizzas made daily from scratch, including the Spicy Spring with Fra Diavolo Sauce, pepperoni, fresh Mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano.

Chef Bret Thompson and Lucy Thompson-Ramirez of Pez Cantina in downtown LA have opened Pez Modern Coastal Kitchen in the old Slater 50/50 space. Highlights include a black kale Pez Caesar salad with nori crisp, steelhead trout rillette, Kingfish crudo, whole fried fish, and citrus olive oil cake.

The Royce steakhouse at The Langham in Pasadena has introduced a new monthly blind tasting dinner series with eight wines paired with a six course pre-fixe menu.

For a new cocktail spot, The Arroyo Club in Highland Park is a dimly lit bar and good place to start or end your night. Taking over the old Café Birdie spot on Figueroa, drinks include a zero-proof section. Smash burgers can be ordered through a back window.

Eastside Expansions

Thai Street Food favorite, Holy Basil, went from a downtown LA window to a full Atwater Village eatery on Glendale Boulevard. It also offers brunch with Thai rice porridge, Vietnamese bánh mi sandwiches, and Chinese donuts.

The owners of Chimmelier have opened Jilli in the old Kinn spot in Koreatown. The restaurant focuses on drinking culture with bar bites from shrimp toast to chicken wings. The rigatoni vodka pasta with kimchi and bacon is a runaway hit, paired perfectly with Korean soju.

Founder of Glendale staple Mini-Kabob, Armen Martirosyan, along with Aram Kavoukjian, have opened MidEast Tacos in Silver Lake, where you can find falafel tacos and chicken kabob burritos made with traditional Armenian barbecue.

Pitfire Pizza opened in the old Mohawk Bend space in Echo Park, bringing their signature sourdough pies to the neighborhood.
