Bring a picnic, a bottle of wine and prepare to enjoy an evening of entertainment, led by legendary entertainer and Principal POPS Conductor Michael Feinstein. “It’s casual in the best sense of the word, it’s in a relaxing beautiful setting. People are very convivial and happy. The setting itself is gorgeous and the acoustics are great,” says Feinstein.
Whether you’re sitting at a table or on the expansive lawn, you’ll have the best seat in the house while enjoying the picturesque scenery of the Arboretum—you may even hear a peacock or two but that only adds to the POPS Summer Series charm, where participation is encouraged. “The concerts are very interactive with the audience in that we respond to the enthusiasm of those in attendance,” explains Feinstein. “It’s very much a collaboration and one of the most pleasant experiences I’ve ever had as a musician.”
Performances of summer's 2016 season will cover a wide range of styles and themes—from Cole Porter to Frank Sinatra to “The First Ladies of Song” to “A Salute to Warner Bros.,” each summer series concert will have audiences clamoring for an encore of Feinstein’s brilliance, complemented by the talented cast of soloists and musicians.
The quality entertainment, witty anecdotes and thoughtful backstory by Feinstein add a personal touch to the evening and Feinstein’s uncanny ability to charm audiences is apparent. Feinstein humbly acknowledges, “It puts it in a context that hopefully brings it to life in a different way and that’s one of the fun challenges in doing these concerts.”
