Arcadia Rock Climbing
For the daredevil or adrenaline junkie, dangling off a cliff is sure to give a thrill. While climbing mountains might be a bit of a stretch (literally) for the novice climber, Arcadia Rock Climbing Gym offers climbers of all levels of experience and age (5 years and up) a chance to prep and practice before taking to the mountains with a chance to build skills through lessons ranging from bouldering (free climbing) to belaying (how to secure ropes). Experienced climbers will enjoy the variety of challenging climbing routes and parents looking to keep their energetic little ones occupied can sign them up for the youth climbing team. For an especially “rocking” time, the climbing center also offers accommodations for birthday parties as well as team building activities ideal for corporations.

Pasadena Ice Skating Center
Just because the temperature is freezing doesn’t mean you won’t work up a sweat skating laps around the rink at the Pasadena Ice Skating Center. If you’re looking for a fun time with friends or family, we recommend taking part in the center’s public skate sessions (open to all ages and skill levels). Competitive types can grab a hockey stick to join a one of the center’s pick-up games (open to those 18 and older) or for more of a commitment, sign up for the center’s in-house hockey league.

Bar Method
Step up to the barre for Bar Method’s rigorous workout designed to create longer, leaner bodies without causing injury or harm (due to Bar Method’s collaboration with physical therapists and medical consultants) while working out. Founded in the early 2000s by Ellen Burr Leonard, this ballet-inspired workout tones and improves posture and balance, as well as sculpts and strengthens your muscles to help you stay fit through bikini season and beyond.

Stadium Fitness
While you may have missed out on your chance to play in a Rose Bowl game, you can try a grueling workout (think sprints, ab workouts and stadium stair climbing) in the iconic Pasadena landmark. According to Stadium Fitness Owner David Liston, it’s a place to “train where legends have played.” And it’s not all about the workout session—the group recognizes the importance of playing hard, emphasizing camaraderie and friendship outside of the stadium.

The Strength Shoppe
When life gets busy, fitness usually falls by the wayside. Strength Shoppe’s uniquely customizable program focuses on maximizing strength training, resulting in a complete muscle workout that lasts just 20 minutes, that you do only once a week—that’s right, just 20 minutes, once a week. Because the workout focuses on lifting weights without momentum, muscle fatigue is reached in a shorter amount of time. As an added bonus, even those who are out of shape or recovering from an injury can take part in the efficient and effective workout. “One of the main benefits to this type of training is that due to the slow movements, the exercises are extremely safe and can be performed by those who have injuries or medical conditions,” explains Strength Shoppe Owner Melinda Hughes.

Soul Cycle
These cycling classes will help “lean-ify” your calf muscles and leave you feeling more than a slight rush of endorphins. The cycle instructors (some with near cult followings) make the group ride a positive experience with words of encouragement to push you to keep pedaling and, at times, the class feels more like a party than workout. In other words, the mentally and physically exhilarating sweat session will not only leave you refreshed, but quite possibly addicted.
