Small businesses everywhere were hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis and resulting safer-at-home directives. Pasadena businesses were not immune. That’s why patronizing local businesses is now more important than ever and why we’re keeping our neighborhood feature close to home with a look at the fun, food, and shopping available on Holly Street, right in the middle of Old Pasadena.

Eden Garden Bar & Grill, located in a charming early 1900s brick building, has been serving Mediterranean and American cuisine in Old Pasadena since 2008. Both a restaurant and an event space, it offers ample indoor seating and a lovely brick enclosed courtyard reminiscent of a 15th century European garden. Holly Street Arts offers art classes for adults and kids of all ages. For the youngest children, Thursdays offer “Art Exploration for Toddlers” with age-appropriate projects in a variety of mediums. Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays offer fine art classes for kids and teens. The 6:1 kid- to-teacher ratio allows for abundant one-on-one instruction. FIDM graduate Carrie Davich has been curating interior furnishings for “artful living” since 2009. Housed in the mixed-use Raymond Renaissance Project in a space co-designed with Los Angeles designer Michael Berman, Maude Woods offers living room, bath, and kitchen displays, along with curated vintage finds, hand-blown glassware, linens and bedding, jewelry, and gifts—all in an airy, light-filled setting. 55 E.
