With Pasadena’s Colorado Boulevard being overtaken by big-name retailers, it’s a refreshing change of pace to avoid the crowds and take advantage of free parking (yes, it exists!) to venture a little farther up north. Cashmere N Tee, an Altadena clothing boutique, is worth the trip, offering customers elevated everyday wardrobe options, from coveted cozy-centric brands like Sundry and Monrow.
The boutique was founded by stylists Lauren Goldstein and Samera Arkel with the goal of offering “casual-luxury lifestyle essentials” to customers. “Our customer is the woman on the go in their everyday life but wants to be casual, comfy yet chic,” Goldstein says.
Cashmere N Tees offers a curated selection from established designers as well as new and emerging talent. “We love to offer our clientele new and exciting brands and to give new designers a platform to launch,” Goldstein says. “It’s important to support new designers and it keeps it fresh and exciting for our customers.”
Goldstein and Arkel met in the early 2000s. At the time, Arkel owned a boutique called Last Chance in Culver City while Goldstein was working as a wardrobe stylist in the entertainment industry. The two bonded instantly over their mutual love of fashion and beautiful fabrics—especially cashmere.
The idea of Cashmere N Tee came about as Goldstein’s Malibu clients sought everyday essentials—with a luxurious twist. “I have always loved cashmere for its soft, luxurious feel and its timelessness as a wardrobe staple,” she says. “And, of course, T-shirts are classic.”
An up-and-coming Altadena neighborhood seemed like the perfect fit for Goldstein and Arkel’s fresh concept. They also have plans to incorporate men’s and kids’ wear, home products, and even canine fashions in the future.
“We are a lifestyle concept and that means for everyone,” Goldstein says. “To me, Cashmere N Tee [offers a] quintessential casual-cool uniform. Casual-luxe clothing is universal and something that never goes out of style.”
